LIMBANG: Public awareness, especially among the younger generation, of the role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as a symbol of national sovereignty will be strengthened through the ‘Raja Kita’ Exhibition.

The exhibition, to be held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of His Majesty the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Sarawak State level, is scheduled to take place from June 12 to 15, 2025, at Dewan Suarah Limbang.

The event is one of the main events of the state-level celebration, which is being held for the first time in the Limbang Division.

According to Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister who is the Minister in Charge of the state-level celebration, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the exhibition aims to enhance public understanding of the history and function of the royal institution within the Constitutional Monarchy and Parliamentary Democracy system.

“We want the people, especially the youth, to better understand the history and importance of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as a unifying and just figure for the nation,” he said at a press conference after chairing the Main Committee Meeting for the Official Birthday Celebration at Hotel Purnama here on Thursday.

In addition to the royal exhibition, various religious, cultural, and entertainment events will be held from June 11 to 14, including an Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony, performances by local artistes, and a Tea Reception with the Head of State and the Premier.

Interestingly, this year’s celebration also targets visitors from neighbouring countries such as Brunei Darussalam, the Federal Territory of Labuan, Sabah, and Indonesia.

To support this, the organisers have applied for an extension of the Brunei border checkpoint operating hours until midnight.

“We are targeting an attendance of 10,000 people throughout the celebration.

“This is not just a national-level event, but also a platform to foster unity and national identity among people of all races,” said Sagah.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) will play a key role in ensuring comprehensive coverage, including live broadcasts and the preparation of publicity materials throughout the programme.

The Limbang Resident’s Office will also organise side activities such as ‘Limbang Kitchen’ to introduce local cuisine to visitors.

Holding the celebration in Limbang is also part of an annual rotational approach aimed at strengthening national spirit at the grassroots level across all divisions in Sarawak.
