SIBU: A former assemblyman anticipates the Year of the Dragon to be a period of robust economic recovery and competitiveness, which will attract more foreign investments to the country.
Dr. Soon Choon Teck Dudong, the assemblyman for Dudong from 1991 to 2011, was optimistic of the ringgit’s resurgence and have positive ramifications on foreign exchange rates, fuelling economic revitalisation.
He stressed the importance of political stability in Malaya as a key factor in attracting foreign investments, which, in turn, would significantly contribute to comprehensive economic rejuvenation.
“In Sarawak, the state’s political stability under effective leadership serves as a promising model. The cohesive coexistence among diverse ethnic groups in Sarawak is an inspiring example for fostering national unity.
“The state model, which stresses equality and ethnic harmony, should serve as a guiding principle for the entire nation,” he said during the Chinese New Year celebration at his residence on Saturday (Feb 10).

Dr. Soon highlighted the importance of addressing racial and religious issues, advocating a shift in focus towards education as the cornerstone of robust economic development.
“With Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership in Sarawak, we anticipate efficient governance will lead to enhancements in infrastructure and the people’s welfare,” he added.
While Malaysians eagerly await the dawn of this new era, Dr. Soon noted that only time will reveal the full extent of the Year of the Dragon’s potential to usher in positive transformations for the country.
