KUCHING: Two luxury vehicles and a compact car with extreme modifications were seized during enforcement operations in separate districts yesterday (Sept 23).
The vehicles were among those inspected by the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) during ‘Ops Luxury’ in Kuching and ‘Ops Extreme’ in Bintulu.
In Kuching, two Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles were seized by the RTD Operations Unit after checks found that their road tax and insurance coverage had expired.
Meanwhile in Bintulu, a Perodua Axia was detained for inspections by the Kapit and Bintulu RTD Operations Units.
Further inspection found that the vehicle had been extensively modified to the extent that it no longer complied with requirements governing vehicles permitted on public roads.
Sarawak RTD said enforcement actions were taken against the offences detected in accordance with the laws currently in force.
The department advised vehicle owners to ensure their road tax and insurance coverage remained valid before using their vehicles on public roads.
It also warned against extreme vehicle modifications as uncontrolled modifications could affect a vehicle’s safety, stability and handling, potentially endangering drivers, passengers and other road users.
The department added that it would continue conducting patrols, monitoring and enforcement operations to ensure vehicles on the road comply with regulations and are safe for use.
