BINTULU: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS), recently organised a tree planting programme which saw 1,500 seedlings from 40 species planted at the university’s Educational Forest Plantation.
The programme brought together 120 participants, including staff from SEB, UPMS, Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), Department of Environment (DOE), as well as Diploma in Forestry students from the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, UPMS.

In a statement, UPMS said the initiative not only exposed students to forest conservation efforts but also reinforced the university’s role as a strategic partner in promoting environmental sustainability.
“This opportunity is very meaningful to students as it allows them to be directly involved in forest conservation and restoration efforts.
“At the same time, the collaboration with SEB demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable development that benefits society and future generations,” it added.
The programme is part of SEB’s Sarawak Energy Corporate Level Integrated 10-Year Tree Planting, Protection and Habitat Restoration Campaign 2021-2030, which supports the national 100 Million Trees Planting Campaign and the Greening Sarawak agenda.
It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land), which highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.
The UPMS tree planting initiative is expected to be held from time to time to raise public awareness on the need to protect the environment while contributing to greener surroundings and a balanced ecosystem.
