SIBU: A man has been reported missing after the express boat he was operating sank following a collision with a cargo vessel near Sanyan Plywood, Tanjung Kunyit last Tuesday.
He has been identified as Hui Chye Mee, 64, and was believed to have been transporting goods to longhouses along the Rajang and Pasin rivers at the time of the incident.
Based on police information, the accident occurred at 6:27 pm when a cargo vessel, laden with containers, slowed down after noticing the express boat approaching.

However, the express boat suddenly cut across the front of the vessel and collided with its bow before sinking.
Initial checks at the scene found several items from the express boat floating on the river surface, but there was no sign of the victim.
The victim’s son had lodged a police report at the Lanang police station on Wednesday, confirming his father had gone missing in the incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department said the search and rescue operation entered its second day today, involving firefighters from Sibu Central station, the police and Civil Defence Force.
At the time of writing, the operation is ongoing and the victim has yet to be found.
