KUCHING: Some 400 police personnel will be deployed for the Gawai Dayak Parade tomorrow (June 15) which will feature 108 contingents from the Dayak ethnic community.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said among the total 427 police personnel who will be on duty will be 42 senior officers.
“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with senior state leadership, and other dignitaries, are expected to attend the event. The parade will begin in front of the Tun Jugah building, proceed through Abell Road, Tunku Abdul Rahman Road, Main Bazaar Road, and conclude at Gambier Road,” he said.
To ensure the parade proceeds without disruptions, several roads along the route will be closed.
Closures will begin today from 2 pm for rehearsals and will continue tomorrow from 6.30 am until the event ends.
The affected roads are Market Road/Mosque Road, Gambier Road/Power Road, Old Court House Road/Khoo Hun Yeang Road, Carpenter Road, Wawasan Road/Wayang Street/Main Bazaar Road, Padungan Road/Bukit Mata Road, Traffic light at Abell Road/ Petanak Road, and Sri Aman Roundabout/Abell Road slip road.
The public is reminded not to park vehicles along the parade route and venue.
Recommended parking locations for visitors include Reservoir Park, Saujana Building, Taman Budaya, Top Spot Car Park, Sarawak Plaza Car Park, Dewan Suarah, Tun Jugah Building, Medan Pelita Building, Plaza Merdeka Car Park, and Plaza Aurora Car Park.
For safety reasons, the police have prohibited the flying of drones without permission. Approval must be obtained from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
The public should comply with the instructions of on-duty police officers.
