KUCHING: The Kuching Waterfront came alive with adrenaline and youthful energy as the DBKU International Extreme Games and CanRoll Pro Urban Festival 2026 officially launched yesterday (April 11).

Officiated by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the event continues to grow as a key platform for urban sports and youth talent development in Sarawak.

He said the festival, now in its third edition since 2024, has gained momentum with stronger international participation and expanded programming.

“When I see what I saw today, I wish I could turn back the clock 40 years… but at this age, I can only watch, otherwise an ambulance might be needed,” he joked.

Held from April 8 to 12, the event features disciplines such as BMX, skateboarding and rollerblading, alongside the CanRoll Pro Urban Festival, creating a vibrant fusion of sport, culture and creativity.

For the first time, the festival also introduces water-based competitions, including jet ski racing, adding a new dimension by utilising the Kuching Waterfront setting.

Abdul Karim said such platforms play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and providing early exposure.

“Many athletes begin their journey in events like this, where confidence is built and potential is discovered,” he said.

He added that the presence of participants from countries including Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia reflects the growing appeal of extreme sports in Sarawak.
