BINTULU: A sawdust storage plant at Jepak Industrial Estate here caught fire early yesterday morning (June 22), but quick action by the factory’s emergency response team (ERT) prevented it from spreading.

The blaze, which occurred at 3.52 am, was extinguished by nine ERT personnel using three fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived at the scene
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene, about 12km away, following a distress call.
They confirmed that the fire involved a chip bin (sawdust storage unit) and did not affect the building structure.
Firefighters carried out cooling operations around the affected area and inside the chip bin to ensure there were no reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 4.27 am.
