KUCHING: Muhammad Fadhlullah Mohamed Ameenudeen and Syed Ilyas Syed Muhammad Yusuf have emerged champions in the U18 and U12 categories of the Petronas Youth Chess Tournament 2025, here yesterday (Oct 18).
The event drew a total of 213 participants, including 137 players in the U12 category and 76 in the U18 division.
Fadhlullah, representing SMK St Thomas, displayed composure and tactical precision to capture the U18 title ahead of Jude Tie King Hieng from SMK Lawas and Osmond Liu Yong Qing of SM Wong Nai Siong.
Completing the top 10 were Kenny Ling Soon Lih of SMK Tinggi Sarikei, Dennis Chiong Teck Siong of SMK Methodist Sibu, Fam Yii Fui of SMK Chung Hua Miri, Elaine Chieng Shu Qi of SMK St Anthony, Anselm Wong Jing Ern of SMK Bintulu, Benedict Lim Kuan Xun from Swinburne University of Technology, and Joshua Ting Shi Wen of SMK Green Road.
In the U12 division, Syed Ilyas from SK (A) Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan produced an impressive run to finish first, ahead of Wilson Lau Yi Wei of SJK (C) Tiong Ho and Jentzen Wong Tee Heng of SK Methodist Anglo-Chinese.
The remaining top 10 spots were claimed by Hii Shieng Jie, Jonas Lee Sze Hao, Olivia Chen Mei Ying, Jordan Lim Jun How, Mohammad Mirza Hamiz, Megan Ho Xing Ern, and Luis Ling Kah Yi.
