KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister (PETRA), is recovering well after undergoing successful double coronary artery bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Wednesday (Aug. 12).
In a statement today, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister said Fadillah’s family expressed their deepest appreciation to the IJN medical team for its commitment, expertise and professional care throughout his treatment.
“Thank you to the ministries, mosques and surau, houses of worship, government and private agencies, non-governmental organisations, family, friends and all Malaysians who have continuously prayed for his recovery and given him their support,” it said.
Meanwhile, IJN in a separate statement said Fadillah continues to show positive progress following a successful coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure on August 12, after being admitted to the institute on July 28 and undergoing a coronary angiogram the following day.
“He underwent a coronary angiogram on July 29. Following a multidisciplinary team discussion, the medical team determined that coronary artery bypass surgery was the most appropriate course of treatment.
“The double bypass surgery was performed on August 12 by IJN Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib and Prof. Datuk Seri Dr Mond Azhan Yakub, together with Clinical Fellow Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Dr Ahmad Mahir Shamsuddin,” the statement said.
The surgery was carried out under IJN’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol, a multidisciplinary approach designed to support early mobilisation, minimise complications, and promote a safer and faster recovery.
According to IJN’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, the medical team is pleased with the Deputy Prime Minister’s progress, as his treatment and recovery have proceeded according to plan, and his condition continues to improve as expected.
“As part of his early mobilisation programme on August 13, the Deputy Prime Minister successfully completed 2.8 kilometres of cycling exercise under the supervision of IJN’s clinical team.
“He was subsequently transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the general ward that afternoon, where he continues his post-CABG cardiac rehabilitation,” he said. – BERNAMA
