KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 have seized various illicit cigarettes and beers worth over RM380,000 following a raid on a premises along Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa, Bandar Riyal earlier this month.
Its commander ACP Abdul Rahman Mat Hasan said the operation was carried out at around 4:30 pm on October 10 by the Marine Intelligence Unit following a public tip-off about suspicious activities in the area.
“Further inspections into the premises led to the discovery of various duty-not-paid cigarettes and beers – all of which are valued at RM380,220.
“A local man, believed to be the caretaker of the premises, was detained to facilitate investigations,” he said in a statement.

Both the suspect and seized goods were handed over to Kota Samarahan Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further actions.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine up to RM500,000, imprisonment up to five years, or both.
