KUCHING: More than 1,000 police personnel, retirees, and their families came together at St. Peter’s Church today in a meaningful ceremony to mark the 218th Police Day for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak contingent.
The event was held as part of an annual tradition to foster unity, appreciation, and reflection among PDRM members, particularly those of the Christian faith, coinciding with the Easter season.
The church service was led by Reverend Father Christopher Laden Jaban.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, in his speech, emphasised the importance of integrity, purpose, and community service in the daily duties of police officers.
“Our presence this morning reflects our unity and shared commitment as members of PDRM to uphold peace and safety across Sarawak,” he said.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by police officers and encouraged his colleagues to remain strong in their mission to serve the public with professionalism and dedication.
“This annual service is a time for reflection and a reminder of the values that guide us in our work — resilience, hope, and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said.
“Even in the toughest times, it’s important to hold on to the belief that our role as protectors of society is meaningful and impactful.”
Mancha also reminded those present to maintain ethical decision-making and to stay committed to the core principles of justice and public welfare.
“Let us continue to carry out our responsibilities with integrity, placing the wellbeing of the community at the heart of our actions.”
