KUCHING: A 20-year-old local man is under investigation by the police for filing a false report, alleging that his grandfather’s motorcycle had been stolen near Bintawa Bridge.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said after a thorough investigation by the police, it was determined that the entire story had been fabricated.

“The motorcycle was found safely parked in a designated area near a place of worship on Lumba Kuda Street, Kuching, Sarawak.

“An investigation report has been filed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum penalty of a fine of RM2,000.00 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, if found guilty,” he said in a statement issued last night (Oct 17).

Ashmon also reminded the public to avoid making false reports that may create a negative perception of Kuching being rife in crimes.

“The police will take strong action against individuals who engage in such behaviour,” he added.
