MIRI: FAMA Fest 2025 Sarawak is expected to spark greater interest among young people to venture into the agriculture sector.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said this is because it will serve as an important medium to introduce digital agricultural innovations to the public.
It is envisaged that FAMA Fest will also be a platform for entrepreneurs to sell their products.
“More importantly, we want to attract and reassure farmers, especially the younger generation, that the supply chain can be supported and assisted by the government.
“That is why, as I mentioned earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has two main approaches – first, to ensure there is food on the table, and second, to create income-generating opportunities,” he said at the launch of FAMA Fest 2025 Sarawak here on Friday.
Now in its fourth edition, the event also serves as the opening location for this year’s nationwide series.
The festival will then move on to Johor, Perak, Sabah and Selangor, before concluding in Negeri Sembilan.
For this year’s edition, FAMA is targeting a total sales value of RM5.3 million, involving 383 entrepreneurs and an expected turnout of about 260,000 visitors at each location.
One of the key initiatives highlighted is the strategic collaboration between FAMA and PayNet to promote the use of cashless payments among agripreneurs and visitors.
Between 2023 and 2024, the FAMA-PayNet collaboration recorded over five million transactions, demonstrating a significant impact on the digital payment system within the nation’s agricultural sector.
For 2025, PayNet continues as a strategic partner, contributing a sponsorship worth RM1 million to strengthen support for FAMA’s efforts in modernising agricultural marketing systems and advancing the country’s digital economy.
