BINTANGOR: A family of four was left devastated after their home in Kampung Telok Bulat, Jalan Mara Bunut, was reduced to ashes in a fire this afternoon (Jan 27).
No injuries or casualties were reported as the family, including a baby girl, was not home at the time of the incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintangor station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 2.16 pm.
It was understood that the team had to board a ferry to reach the scene, located about 14km away from their station.
Upon arrival, they found the house was beyond saving and carried out extinguishing works using water sourced from a nearby drain.
The flames were brought under control at 3.34 pm, followed by overhaul works to ensure no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 3.40 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are currently under investigation.
