SIMUNJAN: A family of seven, including four children, escaped unhurt after their house was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Sageng Hilir here yesterday (Aug 19).

The blaze involved a non-permanent house measuring 25 by 52 square feet and left the occupants — a man, two women, three boys, and one girl — homeless.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 2.36 pm, and firefighters from the Simunjan station were dispatched to the scene, located about 3km away.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the house had been completely destroyed,” the department said in a statement.

It added that all the occupants managed to escape without injury.

Firefighters used a 300-foot hose line with two jets from the fire engine pump, drawing water from a nearby hydrant to extinguish the blaze.

As of press time, overhaul works were still ongoing.
