SIBU: The family of a man reported missing after the express boat he was operating sank  following a collision with a cargo boat at Tanjung Kunyit here on Sept 9 last year, is seeking a final search attempt to bring closure to them.

They have appealed to Pelawan assemblyman, Datuk Michael Tiang to seek his assistance in contacting the relevant authorities to carry out a final search operation for the sunken boat.

Although multiple search efforts were conducted earlier, the missing boat has yet to be located.

The family hoped that, if conditions permit, a comprehensive and official final search can be carried out.

During the meeting with Tiang, the family of the missing man explained the incident in detail and said that this would be their final request for a search operation.

After listening to the appeal, Tiang expressed his understanding and assured that he would convey the request to the relevant authorities, as well as assist in facilitating communication and coordination.

He emphasised that any further action would be subject to professional assessment and safety considerations, and that the decision of the relevant agencies would be respected.
