KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching recently visited a bedridden man, Mohamad Marwan Abdullah, 62, at his ex-wife’s home at Jalan Astana here.

Marwan suffered a stroke last year that left him bedridden. He is now being cared for by his two adult children at their mother’s house.

After divorcing his wife more than 10 years ago, Marwan had been living alone in Sri Aman, while his ex-wife, Maria, took sole custody of their two children and later remarried.

“Unfortunately, in June last year, Marwan suffered a stroke and was hospitalised at the Sri Aman hospital. With no other family nearby, he was bedridden and left alone in Sri Aman,” according to Hope Place through a press statement today.

Marwan’s daughter later came across a social media post by people searching for his family. His son, Nurazan, 34, immediately contacted the Sri Aman Hospital.

Without hesitation, Maria and her children decided to bring Marwan to Kuching and take care of him. Currently, Marwan can only move slightly and is only able to mumble.

Nurazan, who works at a grilled chicken stall, is the main income provider for the family, while his sister Lina, 33, who is mentally disabled, looks after their father most of the time at home.

A former factory worker, Marwan has no savings to fall back on.

However, Lina receives a monthly aid of RM300 from the Social Welfare Department.

Hope Place has also stepped in to support the family with adult diapers, food aid, and a commode chair for Marwan’s use.
