MIRI: Fancy and non-compliant licence plates topped the list of offences detected during a week-long traffic enforcement operation here, which resulted in 330 summonses being issued.
The operation, codenamed Op Pelbagai, was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from Jul 28 to Aug 3.
Led by a senior officer and supported by 13 personnel, the team inspected a total of 509 vehicles and screened 571 individuals.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said fancy licence plates and those that do not comply with legal standards, remain one of the key violations detected during enforcement.
“Of the total summonses issued, 48 were for fancy licence plates, while 47 were for plates that did not comply with legal specifications.
“Such offence is a violation under Section 14(4) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine up to RM3,000.
“The remaining 235 summonses were for various other traffic offences,” he said.
He reminded motorists to ensure that their vehicles are legally valid in terms of licence, insurance, and road tax, and to always comply with the traffic laws and regulations that have been set.
Traffic enforcement and monitoring will continue as part of efforts to ensure road safety and curb irresponsible behaviour on the road.
Mohd Farhan encouraged the public to report any traffic offences to the Miri police operations room at 085-433400 or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app.
