FAS eyes collaboration with schools to boost football

KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) is exploring closer collaboration with the Sarawak State Education Department to strengthen football development at the school level across the state.

The initiative aims to expand grassroots programmes and create stronger pathways for identifying and nurturing young football talent through school platforms.

During a meeting with Sarawak Education Director, Omar Mahli, today, both parties discussed several potential areas of cooperation, including the development of coaching expertise among teachers.

The discussions also touched on strategies to improve structured talent development programmes within schools, allowing promising players to be identified and nurtured at an earlier stage.

Both sides shared views on how stronger coordination between the football association and schools could help ensure grassroots programmes are implemented more effectively throughout Sarawak.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to explore several joint initiatives to strengthen grassroots football developments and expanding opportunities for young players in schools across the state.

The Sarawak Education Department was represented by Mahli; Assistant Director of Student Talent Development Unit, Johnny Rasit; and Assistant Director and Head of Sports Unit, Dicken Kilue.

Meanwhile, the FAS delegation included Vice-President, Khairulddin Qalam Daud; Awangko Shahbuddin Abu Bakar; Joseph Kalang Tie; and Mohd Amirul Abdillah.
