SIBU: A father who assaulted his 16-year-old daughter after becoming angry over her failure to complete household chores and study was fined RM500 by the Magistrates’ Court today(Sept 28).
The accused, Ting Ee Hwa, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Romario Jonoi to voluntarily causing hurt to his daughter, an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
The court ordered him to pay the fine, in default of two weeks’ imprisonment, which he subsequently paid.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred at about 10.50 am on April 2, 2026, at a residence in Sibu Jaya.
The victim was subsequently brought to the Emergency Department of Sibu Hospital by a school teacher for treatment after sustaining injuries following the assault.
Investigations found that the accused had pinched and hit his daughter, causing bruises to her shoulder, thigh and forearm.
The court was told that the accused had carried out the assault as a form of discipline after becoming angry with the teenager for allegedly being unable to complete simple household chores and failing to study for school.
Police arrested the accused on June 22, 2026, at Jalan Laichee, for further investigation.
A statement from the victim’s grandmother was also recorded during the investigation. She said she did not witness the accused causing the injuries but confirmed that the teenager’s failure to complete household chores had angered the accused.
Medical findings recorded injuries including bruising to the victim’s shoulder and forearm.
The investigation concluded that the accused had voluntarily caused physical pain and injuries to the teenager, leading to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
