KUCHING: A father of six from Petra Jaya, Julaihi Osman, continues to persevere in supporting his family of eight despite financial hardship and living in an unfinished home.

His struggles recently caught the attention of Hope Place Kuching, that extended assistance through the distribution of food aid and school supplies.

The 42-year-old man, is also a self-employed mechanic who repairs villagers’ vehicles in the area.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO), in a statement, said Julaihi also takes on grass-cutting jobs and sells handmade wooden fishing rods to supplement his income.

However, despite juggling multiple sources of income, meeting the family’s daily needs remains a constant struggle.

His house, built over ten years ago, remains incomplete due to financial constraints, with bare walls, no kitchen windows, a partially walled bathroom and a roof that leaks badly when it rains.

Additionally, Julaihi powers his home using a car battery, which he recharges by connecting it to his vehicle and running the engine when the power runs low.

Julaihi’s eldest child, Juhaini, 18, recently completed school and hopes to start a home-based baking business in the future.

Meanwhile, his four younger children are still in school and the youngest will begin next year.

Hope Place Kuching recently visited the family to provide basic food aid and school supplies.
