KUCHING: The late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang will be remembered as a compassionate and hands-on figure who championed the wellbeing of women, persons with disabilities (OKU), and senior citizens in Sarawak.

Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah described the passing of Premier’s wife Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as a profound loss not just for the state but also for the ministry, which had long benefited from her unwavering support and presence.

“She was always with us, especially in programmes aimed at empowering women and enhancing the lives of the OKU community,” she said when met by reporters while paying her last respects to Juma’ani at Masjid Jamek Negeri here today.

Fatimah highlighted the late Juma’ani’s personal involvement in grassroots initiatives under the ministry, including her connection to the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK) in Satok and the Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas.

“Her presence was not ceremonial. She genuinely cared. I know how happy she was every time there was a programme that focused on strengthening the OKU community. That joy was visible in her,” she said.

Fatimah added that she would be especially missed during the state-level Women’s Day celebrations this year, where she was a constant figure sitting beside the Premier.

“She always made time for us and offered advice sometimes formally, sometimes just in conversation on how to improve our services for women and the OKU,” she recalled.

Describing her as a soft-spoken and humble person, Fatimah said she embodied the qualities of a dignified, caring wife and woman.

“She had a gentle way of advising. I remember one event where she quietly reminded the Premier to wait before leaving because some guests had not finished eating.

“That small gesture reflected how considerate she truly was.

“We felt deeply honoured. It’s one of many memories that speak volumes about her warmth and sincerity,” she added.
