KUCHING: The role and contributions of Sarawakian women in elevating the state’s name on the global stage were once again celebrated with the launch of Sarawak Women Creating Legacies, the 2025 edition of the Sarawak Women book series.
The ceremony, held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), honoured 27 outstanding women from diverse professional backgrounds today.
The launch was officiated by Sarawak’s Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, recognising women who have made significant impacts across various sectors, including education, sports, public service, healthcare, entrepreneurship, the arts, and governance.
“These women are not only contributors to Sarawak’s growth but also ambassadors who have brought pride to our state on national and international platforms.
“This book is a tribute to their spirit, vision, and resilience,” said Fatimah in her address.
The 2025 volume marks the 12th instalment in the annual Sarawak Women book series, which began in 2010.
To date, a total of 335 women personalities have been profiled under a wide range of themes such as politics, volunteerism, scholarly writing, innovation, and public safety.
Fatimah emphasised the importance of documenting women’s achievements to ensure that their legacies continue to inspire younger generations.
She extended her appreciation to the Department of Women and Family Sarawak (JWKS), the book’s editorial team.
“This is more than just a book. It is a living archive of triumph, a reflection of Sarawakian women’s strength, and a rallying call for all women to build legacies that shape a harmonious and progressive future for our state,” she said.
Uniquely, this year’s launch was held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, the first time a Women’s Day celebration and book launch have taken place at the state’s highest legislative institution.
Fatimah noted that the venue symbolised recognition of women’s rightful place in policymaking and leadership.
With its elegant design and wide-ranging content, Sarawak Women Creating Legacies stands not only as a vital state record but also as a symbol of the strength, diversity, and excellence of Sarawakian women on the world stage.
