KUCHING: A courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on Wednesday served as a platform to share information regarding Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi’s proposal to establish a Centre for the Care of End-Stage Chronic Patients in Sarawak.

The initiative was brought to the attention of His Excellency during a visit by Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, at the official residence, Kasuma Resort here.

The proposed centre, which aims to provide comprehensive palliative care services for individuals of all ages, is intended to cater to those requiring critical long-term care, with a focus on underprivileged communities.

The proposal received encouraging support from both Wan Junaidi and Fauziah, who acknowledged the increasing demand for such services in view of Sarawak’s ageing population.

In response, they urged the ministry to prepare a detailed concept paper encompassing financial implications, manpower needs, expertise, potential locations in major towns, and possible strategic collaborations with the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organisations, and other relevant agencies.

The Head of State and his wife also took the opportunity to offer constructive suggestions for improving several areas under the ministry, including the E-Kasih programme, early childhood education with a focus on character-building and values, and rural skills training programmes to uplift the livelihood of less-educated communities.

During the visit, Fatimah also presented an official letter inviting Fauziah to visit the One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC), an initiative by the Sarawak Government under the ministry’s supervision.

Wan Junaidi and Fauziah expressed appreciation to the ministry for their commitment and collaboration in exploring vital initiatives that will improve the wellbeing of Sarawakians in need.
