THE Office of the Federal Secretary of Sarawak (SUPS) is currently coordinating information for the preparation of a development proposal paper for the establishment of a Federal Government Common Use Building (BGKP) in Serian.

Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said this follows an assessment conducted by SUPS to determine the need for such a facility in the Serian Division.

“Based on the findings of this survey, a proposal for the establishment of the BGKP has already been prepared,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN sitting here yesterday.

However, Sikie explained that the proposal must undergo several processes and further refinement before it is submitted to the Prime Minister’s Department and the Ministry of Economy for funding consideration under the Rolling Plan 2 of the 13th Malaysia Plan in 2027.

He added that a site inspection and evaluation visit was carried out on Sept 25, 2025, led by the Project Management Division 5, Public Works Department (PWD) Malaysia.

“The purpose of the visit was to assess the condition of the proposed site and subsequently update and submit the preliminary cost estimate, taking into account Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation costs and seismic requirements,” he said.

Sikie said SUPS is now finalising all necessary information to facilitate the submission of the development proposal paper to the Prime Minister’s Department.
