KUCHING: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW) remains committed to empowering rural women in Sarawak through various leadership training and community empowerment programmes.

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said a total of 1,300 participants, including 420 women from Sarawak, have benefited from a series of courses and seminars organised by the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) this year.

“In Sarawak, three sessions of the ‘Community Empowerment Course: Women’s Module’ involving 120 participants were held, in addition to a Rural Women’s Leadership Seminar attended by 300 women,” she said.

She said this in her speech when officiating at the closing of the seminar at Imperial Hotel today.

Rubiah explained that these initiatives provide rural women with opportunities to enhance their skills while strengthening their roles in community development.

She added that under the Rural Development Policy (DPLB), KKDW ensures that rural women have equal access to education, skills training, and employment opportunities.

Rubiah also commended the commitment of rural women in Sarawak, who are increasingly active in various fields, including agriculture, entrepreneurship and health.

“Women are the backbone of society, not only playing vital roles within the family but also serving as agents of change who influence many aspects of life,” she said.
