KUCHING: National shuttlers Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Jemie Lai have been officially included in the prestigious Road to Gold (RTG) programme — Malaysia’s elite athlete initiative targeting the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Their entry follows a stellar season, with Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin currently ranked world No. 1 in men’s doubles, while Soon Huat–Shevon hold the world No. 5 spot in mixed doubles.
The RTG programme, introduced in 2023, offers comprehensive support to athletes with proven international promise — including tailored training, competition exposure, and high-performance resources.
With the recent additions, RTG now supports all of Malaysia’s top-ranked badminton pairs across disciplines.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the latest addition reflected the athletes’ consistency and medal potential.
“Through RTG, these four shuttlers will now receive extensive performance related support as they aim to not only qualify for the 2028 Olympics, but also create history for Malaysia in Los Angeles.
“We hope this additional support will spur them in their pursuit of excellence,” she said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Shevon, in a recent Instagram post, wrote: “We appreciate the support from RTG to help us elevate our performance. We promise to give our best in the upcoming competitions.”
