GEDONG: ‘Siti Hajar’ is the new name proposed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to replace the given name of Gulang Satian, 70, who embraced Islam in November 2023.
Gulang, originally from Miri and now residing in Kampung Semelap Ulu, Gedong, was one of the recipients of sacrificial meat during the Lembu and Daging Korban Handover Ceremony for the N.26 Gedong Constituency 2025, officiated by the today.
The mother of five expressed her gratitude and was deeply moved by the naming suggestion, especially as it came directly from the Premier.
The name Siti Hajar was suggested spontaneously, inspired by the name of Prophet Ibrahim A.S.’s wife, who is celebrated for her profound sacrifice, particularly in the story involving Prophet Ibrahim and their son, Prophet Ismail A.S.
The story of Siti Hajar is also closely linked with the pilgrimage ritual, especially the Sa’i between the hills of Safa and Marwah, which commemorates her perseverance in seeking water to save her son.
Meanwhile, the ritual of korban honours the unwavering obedience of Prophet Ibrahim in fulfilling God’s command to sacrifice his son – a profound spiritual symbol of submission and devotion in drawing closer to Allah SWT.
