KUCHING: The ‘Fenomena Samurai 2025’ concert is expected to be the biggest rock event in Sarawak this year, as legendary XPDC vocalist Ali makes his long-awaited return to a major stage with a special classic rock metal performance lined up for the concert night.

Concert producer and director, Ikram Zainuddin, said the event, which will take place at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya, not only brings together two rock icons – Search and XPDC – but will also feature a special appearance by Ali, whose real name is Mohd Ali Ismail, 57, promising an unforgettable experience for fans.

“The audience will be treated to a unique opening performance by a guest band from Peninsular Malaysia, featuring a combination of artists from several groups together with two local Sarawak musicians, delivering a fresh and energetic musical set.

“In addition, there will be several surprises prepared for rock fans in Sarawak that night,” Ikram told Sarawak Tribune during an interview at Stadium Perpaduan on Tuesday.

It is understood that Ali suffered health complications and was rushed to Shah Alam Hospital in July due to breathing difficulties.

However, according to the latest reports, his condition has since stabilised.

Ali first joined XPDC in 1997, replacing the late Mael, with his first album with the band titled ‘Samurai’ released in 1998.

Nevertheless, due to his recent health issues, Ali has been replaced by Mamu Fazli as the full-time vocalist.

Ikram added that a special fan meet-and-greet session with XPDC and Search will be held on December 12 from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Stadium Perpaduan.

The session is exclusively open to VIP ticket holders who are invited to enjoy a personal interaction with their favourite artistes.

“Concert preparations are now almost complete and have reached 60 per cent… Ticket sales have shown encouraging response. Tickets are divided into five categories: VIP Mosh or Rock Zone, Gold, Silver and Bronze,” Ikram said.

“Official merchandise will be available from 2:00 pm on the day of the concert, including official items from Search and XPDC as well as products from local Sarawak entrepreneurs such as food and beverages.

“Official merchandise prices range from RM59 to RM179, with a variety of items such as T-shirts, caps, tags and calendars.”

Ikram also revealed plans for ‘Fenomena Samurai 2.0’ in 2026, which may take place either in Borneo or Peninsular Malaysia.

Furthermore, he hopes this concert will set a benchmark for future organisers in Kuching, with three months of detailed preparation, including graphic design and musical arrangements.

“The performance duration of over four hours is expected to provide maximum satisfaction for the audience through a combination of music and animated visuals,” he reiterated.

“Tickets are still available and additional sales will be opened if necessary, giving Sarawakians the opportunity to fill up the stadium.”
