KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan Christmas Parade 2025 brought nearly 1,000 participants and spectators together as the township came alive with colour, music, and festive cheer on Sunday evening (Dec 7).

Hosted by Kota Samarahan Baptist Church, the parade was organised under the Association of Churches in Sarawak Samarahan Branch (ACSSB), with Reverend Daniel Kion serving as the organising chairman.

The evening began with prayers and a praise-and-worship session led by St Francis’s Church, followed by the lighting of the unity candle by the heads of churches in Kota Samarahan, symbolising harmony among the local Christian community here.

At 6.30 pm, the parade set off along Jalan Dato Mohd Musa towards Farley Kota Samarahan, featuring members from various Christian denominations.

Seven Christmas-themed floats brought biblical stories to life, depicting the Nativity, angels, shepherds with sheep, the Three Wise Men, and other scenes that added festive wonder to the streets.

Youth groups including the Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, and Pathfinders also joined the procession, injecting energy and excitement into the celebration.

The festivities continued at Farley Supermarket with Christmas carols, performances, and a lucky draw, giving families and the wider community a chance to join in the holiday spirit.

Residents lined the streets, waving and cheering as the parade passed by, creating a lively and joyous atmosphere.

Daniel emphasised the parade’s role as a unifying event for the Christian community.

“Our focus is to unite all Christian groups. Brothers and sisters come together with one heart, one mind, and one faith.

“It is important for us to witness and proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ as one community here in Kota Samarahan,” he said, noting that such events strengthen bonds among local churches.

He also commended the cooperation of district police headquarters (IPD) Kota Samarahan in ensuring smooth traffic flow during the parade.

“We thank God for their support in keeping the event safe and organised,” he added.
