KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to appreciate the commitment of uniformed personnel who serve tirelessly on the frontlines, including during festive seasons, to ensure the state’s safety and security are preserved.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that while the public celebrates festive occasions with their families, many security personnel remain dedicated to carrying out their duties, especially as statistics show a significant increase in entries into Sarawak during festive periods.
“We try to assist so that they can share in the festive spirit, even though they are far away from their families,” he said when speaking at the symbolic presentation ceremony of the 2026 Chinese New Year Sumbangsih at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (Feb 13).
Abang Johari added that the initiative to extend festive contributions to other celebrations besides Hari Raya was inspired by his late wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who wished to see inclusivity in assistance provided to uniformed bodies.
“I am confident we can continue this effort and, with the increase this year, alhamdulillah, we have allocated RM5.1 million for programmes such as this, particularly for festive celebrations,” he added.
This year, through the Sarawak Women and Family Department, the government will distribute 11,900 food containers to 11 recipient agencies.
Among the recipients are the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Malaysian Prisons Department (JPM), Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).
