MIRI: The Lions Club of Miri Central injected a burst of festive spirit into Miri Hospital today, delivering Christmas gifts to 42 children battling cancer.

The annual outreach turned the paediatric ward into a pocket of celebration, giving families a welcome lift at one of the toughest times of the year.

Organising chairperson Jennifer Phang said the visit was designed to break through the weight of treatment with moments of comfort and joy.

“Our hope is to bring smiles and encouragement to these brave young warriors and their families.

“This season reminds us of the importance of compassion and community. This is a small gesture of care for these children who inspire us with their strength every day,” she said.

Club members and volunteers worked alongside hospital staff to hand out presents and spend time with the young patients, reinforcing the Lions’ long-standing focus on childhood cancer support.

The simple act of showing up, engaging warmly, and creating a festive atmosphere carried a clear message that the community is standing with these families.

Phang also acknowledged the donors, volunteers, and medical teams who made the event possible, stressing that their collective effort reflects the best of community spirit.

The gifts were modest, but the show of solidarity was unmistakable, offering families a brief moment of hope at a time when they need it most.
