SIBU: The Brooke Neighbourhood Committee (KRT Persiaran Brooke) recently held a Christmas carolling event at the Homeless Transit Centre (TTG) to bring festive cheer to the residents.

Around 70 people attended the event, including the Bahasa Malaysia group from Xin Fu Yuan Church, with the homeless residents joining in the celebrations.

According to KRT Persiaran Brooke chairperson Melinda Wong, the event aimed to share the joy, peace, and love of Christmas with the homeless, foster interaction, uphold their dignity, and show that they are not forgotten by the community.

She added that the event also aimed to foster unity, harmony, and a caring spirit within the community, while promoting closer ties among people of different races, cultures, and religions.

The programme featured welcoming remarks, ice-breaking activities, praise and worship, sharing, prayer, singing, the distribution of Christmas presents, food and drinks, and a group photo session.

“We are grateful that we live in a country with freedom of religion and that we all respect each other in our respective faiths,” Wong added.
