KUCHING: Those celebrating Gawai Dayak need to think less of having a fun time and more about doing their bit to fight the pandemic by following the guidelines set by the state government.
“We seek the cooperation of all people to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the movement control order (MCO) in order for us to break the chain of infection,” said Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, when contacted on Sunday (May 30).
He said with the implementation of the MCO in the state, the celebration of Gawai Dayak need to be under strict control.
“Celebrators this year must comply with the SOPs set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Unit For Other Religion (Unifor) and Council for Native Customs and Traditions (MAIS),” he said.
Huge gatherings and ‘ngabang’ in longhouses or villages are not allowed except by close family members.
“Movements between zones especially from red zones are not allowed, meaning going home for Gawai Dayak is strongly discouraged.”
