Final Bell in Sri Aman: 19 bouts to decide boxing champions

SRI AMAN: The fourth edition of the 2025 Sarawak Open Boxing Championships will come to a close tomorrow night (Saturday, August 23), featuring thrilling clashes between top fighters from various clubs, development centres, and even neighbouring countries in the grand finals.

Tournament director, Dr Johnny Ting Su King, said a total of 19 finals are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.

He explained that the evening will open with bouts in the SUKMA age-group categories across different weight classes, followed by 13 finals in the elite division.

The SUKMA age-group finals will see action in the flyweight (51 kg), lightweight (60 kg), light welterweight (63.5 kg), light heavyweight (80 kg), women’s minimum weight (48 kg), and women’s light flyweight (52 kg) categories.

“Interestingly, the SUKMA-level contests will also feature boxers from Singapore alongside fighters from local clubs and development centres,” Johnny told Arena Suara Sarawak.

The 13 elite finals will be contested in the minimum weight (48 kg), flyweight (51 kg), bantamweight (54 kg), featherweight (57 kg), lightweight (60 kg), light welterweight (63.5 kg), welterweight (67 kg), light middleweight (71 kg), middleweight (75 kg), light heavyweight (80 kg), heavyweight (92 kg), women’s light flyweight (52 kg) and women’s light welterweight (63 kg) divisions.

Johnny urged the public in Sri Aman to come in full force to the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium to witness the finals, which are expected to run well into the night.
