KUCHING: The Samarahan Music Friendship Society successfully organised the Final Singing Contest at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua, Sungai Jernang, last Saturday (April 26).
The event celebrated the outstanding performances of finalists who had progressed from the preliminary rounds held earlier at TJ Delight on April 12.
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim said that the event also aimed to nurture musical talent and strengthen community spirit.
“I hope that the Kota Samarahan Music Friendship Society will continue organising this meaningful annual event, enriching the lives of Samarahan residents,” he said in his text speech read by his representative, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, during the event.
In addition to his support for the event, Hamzah announced a RM10,000 grant to further aid the Samarahan Music Friendship Society’s future initiatives.
Hamzah also highlighted the remarkable growth of Kota Samarahan, which continues to attract people from other regions due to its modern infrastructure, housing availability, healthcare, and education.
“Starting in 2026, Sarawakian students will benefit from free tertiary education in fields such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Law, Accounting, Medicine, and Finance at state-owned universities and colleges.
“Looking forward, the construction of a new deep-sea port and an airport in Tanjung Embang will drive further economic growth, benefiting the Samarahan Division and the greater Kuching area.
“These initiatives underscore the importance of unity and collaboration under the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government. As the population grows, it is vital to continue fostering understanding, friendship, and unity among Samarahan residents,” he said.
Hamzah also expressed his gratitude to Stakan voters for supporting political stability, which has brought prosperity, progress, and peace to Sarawak.
“With a strong and united GPS government, Sarawakians stand to benefit greatly,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap urged residents to continue supporting SUPP, emphasising the importance of real service and development rather than mere ‘lip service’ that does not genuinely improve people’s quality of life.
For the record, the results of the Final Singing Contest saw Hii Pik Hua crowned as the champion.
Chong Teck Rong secured the title of 1st runner-up, while Jong Yan Hui claimed the 2nd runner-up spot and Wong Xi Wei finished as the 3rd runner-up.
