KUCHING: A quiet sense of loss filled the air as family members, friends and members of the education fraternity gathered to pay their final respects to trainee teachers, the late Christopher Ling Jia Siang and Joey Ling Lin Siang, in ceremonies held simultaneously in Kuching and Sibu.

Though conducted in an orderly and respectful manner, the weight of the moment was unmistakable: a reflection of not only lives lost, but of the promise they carried as future educators.

In Kuching, Sarawak Education diector Omar Mahli was present alongside Dr Abang Ismail Abang Julhi, director of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Batu Lintang Campus, to pay their last respects.

In Sibu, a similar atmosphere prevailed as Dr Les Met, deputy director of the School Management Sector, Sarawak State Education Department, joined Achmaed Ckhalifh Alamien of the Sibu District Education Office, along with officers, principals and teachers from SMK Tung Hua Sibu.

Christopher and Joey, both students of the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) Perlis Campus, were remembered for their discipline, dedication and strong determination in pursuing their studies.

These qualities had set them on the path to becoming educators.

Their passing marks a profound loss not only to their families, but also to the wider education fraternity, where they were seen as individuals who carried both commitment and quiet resilience.

As final respects were paid, those in attendance reflected on memories of the pair — recalling their friendly nature, their sense of responsibility and their consistent effort to strive for excellence.

Omar, in extending his condolences, expressed hope that the families would be granted strength and resilience in facing this difficult time, while emphasising that the contributions and spirit of both Christopher and Joey would continue to be remembered.

The ceremonies concluded with prayers and hopes that both would be granted eternal peace.
