THE government has been urged to finalise the long-awaited revision of allowances for community leaders and grassroots administrators.

Mohammad Duri (GPS-Kalaka) said the matter has remained unresolved and continues to raise concern among village-level leadership.

He highlighted that penghulus, tuai rumah, village chiefs (KMKK), JKKK secretaries, and district council members play crucial roles in managing village affairs and deserve fair and timely compensation.

“It is time for the government to finalise and implement the increase in allowances.

“These positions carry major responsibilities, and the current rates are outdated and no longer commensurate with their duties,” he said when debating in support of the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s opening speech in the august house.

Mohammad Duri pointed out that these leaders have waited too long for the government to review their remuneration, despite repeated appeals in past DUN sittings.

“Their contributions to maintaining community harmony and assisting in government outreach at the grassroots level should be recognised through fair compensation,” he said.

Mohammad Duri reiterated his call for the allowance adjustment to be implemented this year, noting that the increase would not only boost morale but also reinforce the important link between the government and rural communities.
