MIRI: The Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak are collaborating to host its flagship financial literacy programme, titled “My Money & Me” to be held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri on 27 September.
The half-day workshop, themed “Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow”, is scheduled to run from 8 am to 1pm and aims to empower participants with practical knowledge to manage their personal finances responsibly. Admission is free and registration is open until 25 September.
MFPC president Andy Ng Yen Heng said the programme was designed to prepare the community for better financial decision-making.
“This programme is more than just financial education, it’s about equipping the community to make informed decisions for their financial wellbeing and future security,” he said.
Launched in 2008, My Money & Me has since become MFPC’s flagship initiative in financial literacy, reaching thousands across Malaysia through partnerships with regulators, statutory bodies, government agencies, industry collaborators and higher learning institutions.
In Miri, the workshop will feature sessions conducted by representatives from Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDN), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Private Pension Administrators Malaysia (PPA) and MFPC. Topics include asset management, wealth accumulation, and financial protection.
“The programme is targeted at young professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners and members of the public seeking financial guidance,” he said.
Participants will also benefit from interactive gamification activities, networking opportunities with financial institutions, and exclusive giveaways.
Organisers said the programme has gained recognition as an award-winning initiative that promotes financial awareness in an easy-to-understand format.
It is designed to help individuals strengthen their financial foundation, improve decision-making skills, and avoid common pitfalls such as excessive debt.
With the rising cost of living and increasing financial challenges, MFPC stressed that financial literacy is no longer optional but a necessity.
“The council hopes the Miri edition of My Money & Me will encourage more Sarawakians to take proactive steps in securing their financial future,” he said.
