KEPALA BATAS: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), with the support of the Ministry of Communications, organised a wayang pacak (open-air cinema screening) here tonight to bring the younger generation closer to local films while strengthening community ties.
Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said such programmes are important, especially in rural areas, as they not only provide entertainment but also cultivate interest among the youth in local productions.
“I see activities like this bringing joy and drawing the children closer to local films.
“Many young people today are more engrossed with devices and phones, but watching open-air cinema is a community activity that offers positive social benefits,” he told reporters after attending the open-air cinema screening in Permatang Bertam, which screened the film ‘Don Dukun’ in conjunction with the 34th Malaysian Film Tour organised by FINAS.
The screening, which began at 9:15 pm, was also attended by the Ministry of Communications’ Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and BERNAMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
About 250 residents enlivened the programme, which was also held in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations featuring various community activities. – BERNAMA
