MIRI: Firefighters from Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station rushed to a hotel at Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai here after receiving a distress call at 6.41 pm on Friday.

Upon arrival, they encountered thick smokes billowing from the gymnasium area.

Preliminary reports indicated that the fire had originated in the sauna room of the hotel.

Two hotel employees had already attempted to douse the flames using two fire extinguishers while the sprinkler system was also activated.

The Fire and Rescue personnel conducted an inspection to identify the source of the fire before carrying out full suppression efforts.

Using a hose reel and a 200-foot water jet from their fire engine’s tank and a fire hydrant, the firefighters successfully extinguished the embers, ensuring the area was completely safe.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
