SIBU: Two double-storey semi-detached workshops at Jalan Wawasan here were damaged in a fire last night (Friday).
Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department chief, Andy Alie, said the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 8:29 pm, and deployed a team of firefighters from the Sungai Merah station to the scene, located seven kilometres away.
“Upon arrival, we found that the fire involved two workshop buildings.
“The first workshop was 80 per cent destroyed, while the second sustained 20 per cent damage, mainly affecting the fibre layer of the roof.
“A BMW vehicle was also destroyed in the blaze,” he said in a statement today.
He added that fortunately, no casualties occurred in the fire.
“The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes after firefighting efforts began, and the operation ended at 11:11 pm,” he said.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
