Fire department puts out 54 hectares of bushfires in Bintulu, Matu-Daro

SIBU: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department put out 54 hectares of bushfires in several areas in Bintulu and Matu-Daro.

A department operations centre spokesman said that based on updates as of 7:00 pm, the largest fire under control is along Jalan Matu-Igan near the Igan Bridge in Matu, with 20 hectares out of 35 hectares being put out.

“The 14-hectare bushfire behind the Marine Jepak Flats, Bintulu, is almost completely put out, with 13 hectares put out.

“The 13-hectare bushfire along Jalan Kampung Kut-Kampung Saai in Pulau Bruit, Daro has been successfully put out after eight days of firefighting,” they said in a statement on Saturday night.

Apart from that, the four-hectare bushfires along Jalan Bruan-Tutus in Matu and in Kampung Penasu, Daro, have also been put out.

“The department’s air unit’s Mi-17i aircraft conducted 10 water bombing sessions to put out the fire along Jalan Matu-Igan,” they said, adding that firefighting operations will resume today (Sunday, April 12) in affected areas. – BERNAMA
