MIRI: A morning fire destroyed about 70 per cent of a semi-permanent house in Kampung Raan, Jalan Bakam, here today but firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from causing further damage to three vehicles at the property.
No casualties were reported.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire was reported at 8.14 am and a team from Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 8.31 am, about 17km from the station.
Firefighters immediately mounted an offensive operation after confirming that the blaze had engulfed a large section of the house.
Using multiple hose lines, nozzles, a fire engine pump and a nearby fire hydrant, the team brought the fire under control within eight minutes, at 8.40 am.
Firefighters continued with cooling and safety checks before declaring the operation completed at 11.07 am.
Bomba said three vehicles at the premises were also affected by the incident but firefighters succeeded in saving them.
The operation involved personnel and assets from Miri Central and Lopeng fire stations, including fire engines and Emergency Medical Rescue Services units. Three personnel from Sarawak Energy Berhad were also at the scene.
The fire involved a house owned by Faizal Abdullah. Five occupants were listed at the premises.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses have yet to be determined.
