KUCHING: Firefighters battled for nearly seven hours to extinguish a fire involving a factory at Jalan Bintawa Village here today.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), they received a distress call regarding the incident at 9:29 am, and immediately dispatched personnel from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations to the scene.
“The fire involved a single-storey factory measuring 60 by 80 square feet, which was 95 per cent destroyed,” the statement read.
Firefighters faced challenges in extinguishing the flames due to the building’s unstable interior, which had sustained cracks in the walls.
“After nearly an hour of efforts using fire break, defensive and attacking techniques with water sources from fire hydrants and water tankers, the blaze was brought under control at 10:26 am.
“The team also successfully prevented the fire from spreading to two nearby factories.
“No injuries were reported,” the statement added.
The fire was fully extinguished by 4:25 pm, and firefighters ensured no embers remained before returning to their stations.
The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
