BINTULU: Eight portable cabins were destroyed in a fire at a temporary workers’ accommodation site near Bakun Dam.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 4.02am this morning about container cabins on fire at a workers’ accommodation site.
Firefighters from Belaga fire station responded to the incident and discovered that eight container rooms were on fire.
“The affected units were part of a block of 24 container cabins, which were being used as temporary lodging by a construction contractor.
“The operations commander reported that firefighter were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby units.
“Firefighters deployed two hose lines, with water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant, to bring the situation under control,” it said.
Prior to the arrival of the firefighters, the Bakun Emergency Response Team (ERT) had carried out initial firefighting efforts.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
