SIBU: The third floor of a shophouse unit at Jalan Brooke Drive here was completely destroyed in an early morning fire today.
According to Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, they received a distress call at 3.24am and deployed 25 firefighters from Sungai Merah and Sibu Sentral fire stations to the scene.
“At the location, firefighting operations were conducted from the front and back parts of the shophouse.
“The firefighters had to cut the padlock to enter the premises,” he said in a statement today (June 23).
Andy said that the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control at 3.44am
“Once the situation is deemed safe, the teams wrapped up the operation at around 5.45 am,” he added.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
