SIBU: A fire destroyed six units of unoccupied wooden quarters at the 10th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) camp in Jalan Lanang here on Sunday night (April 27).
According to Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, they received a distress call at 7.58 pm and immediately deployed firefighters from the Sibu Sentral station to the scene, located about 6km away.
“The fire involved a block of 10 unoccupied quarters, each measuring 20 feet by 30 feet. Six units were destroyed, while firefighters managed to save four units,” he said in a statement yesterday (April 28).
He added that the fire was brought under control at 8.39 pm, and the operation ended at 9.55 pm.
No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire as well as the estimated losses are still under investigation.
