MIRI: A steel storage container used to keep construction materials was destroyed in a fire at Interhill Park, here, on Monday (Oct 13).

The incident occurred at a house in Lorong 14B at 2.42 pm.

A resident alerted the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), and firefighters from the Miri Sentral Station were swiftly deployed to the scene, about 10 kilometres away.

Led by PBKI Abdul Rahman, the first response team arrived at 2.53 pm to find the 20-by-40-foot container engulfed in flames.

The structure was destroyed despite efforts to contain the blaze.

Firefighters employed the RECEO strategy — Rescue, Exposures, Confine, Extinguish, Overhaul — using a 100-foot hose line with one nozzle and water from the engine’s tank. The fire was brought under control by 3.20 pm and put out by 4 pm.

No injuries were reported.

Overhaul operations were conducted to ensure there were no remaining embers before the team returned to base at 4.25 pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though initial findings suggest it may have started among stored materials inside the container.

Authorities have reminded the public to ensure proper safety precautions when storing flammable or combustible items.
